Look, do we really need all this stuff?

As a beauty journo and sometime blogger I have started using a LOT of products on my skin in the last couple of years, and while some of them have been amazing, some of them have made my skin worse, or done nothing at all.

But with ALL of them, I am sometimes flummoxed and often terrified by the amount of unidentifiable crap in them. And, since someone glibly informed me, 90% of what goes on your skin goes into your bloodstream, how do we know what we are putting on our faces?

I’m no scientist, and I’m not gonna bang on about skin being the biggest organ so we must take better care of it blah blah (but it is, and we should), but does taking better care of your skin mean putting endless amounts of unidentifiable creams and lotions on it?

The verdict these days seems to swing between Option A, which seems to be a variety of various scaremongering websites which says we’re all going to get cancer and mental problems if we use one more face cream; and Option B, a constant attack from every angle that convinces us our lives will actually improve and we will be liked more if we spend upwards of an hour twice a day layering our skin with serums, balms, creams, toners, gels, cleansers, exfoliants, solutions, oils and sprays.

So, what’s a happy medium?

How do you get a healthy balance?

Where you stand on the amount of products you use?

And how do you stay informed about the good and the bad things in the products you used?

Answers in the comments box please!
