Hidden gems: out of the way salons and spas you need to know about

Posted on February 2, 2011

I’ve been away a while, life got HECTIC. Hello!! How are you all! Anyhoo, below are four of my favourite little spas or salons that just cheer me and can always fit me in.

Chelsea Day Spa: Gorgeous little boutique salon at the top of the Kings Rd. They offer a friendly, welcome, and flexible service. I love the masage I had there, a really impressive knowledge from the therapist and much softer, supple muscles afterwards. Then I relaxed with a pedicure, a cup of tea and a magazine as I watched the world pass by on the street below. Great choice of colours and they were in no rush to move me on as my nails dried. Perfect. http://www.thechelseadayspa.co.uk

Aqua Sheko: The fish nibbling your feet thing has become so ‘on trend’ in the last six months, but there’s nowhere better in London to do it that this place. Hidden down a little street of Kensgington Church Street the place is a proper oasis of slightly surreal calm. You kick off with a gentle feet wash and then are escorted over to the wide leather seats to recline and play with an iPad while tiny little fish suck and clean all the dry skin from your feet. It tickles LOADS at first, but then became quite soothing, and the place is quiet and calming, and I felt myself totally zone out as I sipped my green tea. Then my 30 mins was over and the treatment finished with the best foot massage i’ve ever had. I didn’t want to leave. Perfection. www.aquasheko.co.uk

Hydrohealing: This is less glam and more results focused place. Supposedly in Notting Hill (when really it’s in Ladbroke Grove) the spa specialises in treatment using water and I swear by their hyrdodermabrasion treatment – without doubt the best facial i’ve ever had. My skin was smooth, free of blemishes, tighter and fresher for weeks afterwards. They use lovely REN products and have a genuinely committed to results ethos.  www.hydrohealing.com

Lost in Beauty: Innovative beauty salon in Primrose Hill which offers the usual facial and mani/pedis etc, as well as make-up, hair and body treatments. Georgia Hamed is an expert at what she does, and on top of all that, the place looks divine, like a little girls dressing up box, exploding with colour, vintage feather boas and lots of pinks. www.lostinbeauty.com
